The calm before the storm

Hello fellow co-conspirators!

Well after all the craziness that was PAX, we were all ready for some down time. But, alas! that is not to be… as there is little rest for game devs (which is not ok, work-life balance is important). We are gearing up for a really big announcement in the next couple of months, and we are trying to get all our pieces ready before the final push. Makes life sound almost like a strategy game 😛

While every thing fits into place for this amazing announcement I shall not share right now, development continues. PAX showed us that although the game is fun and people enjoy playing, it also showed us that learning the game is a bit of a challenge.

Most players struggle through the tutorial and once they get it, there’s an ‘aha!’ moment and they enjoy themselvels. Unfortunatley I can’t ship myself with every download to help players through that bump so we need to make sure the game is clearer. We believe the two main pain points are the UI and the tutorial.

If you’re an avid reader of this blog (hey!) you’ll remember that the tutorial was a sticking point a few months back and we reworked it all. Well, it seems we didn’t go far enough! or more like we didn’t go small enough. From our feedback we hear that the players want smaller chunks of tutorial spread throughout the game. That’s a big change, but somehow we’ll figure it out 🙂

As we restructure our back end to allow for this, we’ve kept working on quality of life improvements for players, including better UI. In the last weeks we got a new settings menu

and even some (very early) labels to tell players their mission status:

I admit this is till in it’s fugly phase

There’s still much more to go, but little by little we’ll get this done.

Happy conspiring!
